# KnowMapped

> KnowMapped is a visual knowledge-mapping application for turning complex ideas, source material, and systems of thought into connected knowledge structures. People can build maps manually, create editable starting maps from documents, collaborate, publish interactive views, embed maps, and export their work.

KnowMapped is operated by Education Futures LLC. The public website describes the product, features, pricing, integrations, examples, and policies. Authenticated workspaces and private maps are intentionally excluded from this index. A map is not public unless its owner explicitly publishes it.

- Knowledge maps, not simple diagrams: Represent ideas as connected knowledge structures where concepts and relationships form a model of understanding.
- Meaningful relationships: Connections are more than lines. Describe how concepts support, influence, depend on, contradict, enable, sequence, or otherwise relate to one another.
- Non-linear thinking: Build networks that cross clusters and levels without forcing ideas into a single hierarchy or tree.
- Create from ideas or source material: Start from scratch, or analyze supported documents to create an editable starting map of key concepts and relationships.
- AI-assisted, human-directed creation: Generated maps are starting points for exploration and refinement. Review, reorganize, rewrite, and reshape the map as your understanding develops.
- Fully editable maps: Add, remove, rename, reposition, and reinterpret concepts and relationships throughout the map development process.
- Visual knowledge design: Use layout, grouping, color, typography, themes, and emphasis to communicate patterns, connections, contrasts, pathways, and important ideas.
- Rich concept metadata: Add descriptions, importance, icons, and supporting resources to concepts, while giving relationships direction and meaning.
- Map library search and filtering: Search titles, descriptions, and tags, sort maps, and filter by collection or tag.
- Map locking: Lock a map to prevent accidental edits or deletion, then unlock it when work resumes.
- Portable map files: Import and export `.know` files to preserve and move the underlying KnowMapped map structure.
- Linked maps: Connect related maps so larger subjects can be divided into focused knowledge structures without losing navigational context.
- Expanded design options: Professional access adds additional presentation controls and design options for users who need more flexibility in how maps communicate.
- Explore complex systems: Work with large maps by focusing on areas of interest while maintaining the surrounding context.
- Collaborative knowledge building: Professional map owners can invite others to create, refine, and expand maps in real time while maintaining ownership, viewer/editor access, and control of the original map.
- Live map sharing: Professional-owned public maps can be viewed live at `/public/[map id]/live`, allowing viewers to follow changes without editing the original workspace. Standard public links remain available on Free.
- Interactive publishing: Publish maps as interactive experiences that others can explore online.
- Embeddable knowledge: Publish public maps as interactive links or place them into websites, courses, articles, reports, and digital publications while keeping KnowMapped as the source map.
- Portable knowledge structures: Import and export portable `.know` files on Free. Professional adds JSON, Markdown, GraphML, and Graphviz DOT for structured-data workflows.
- Image and vector exports: Export PNG and JPEG images, or vector SVG and PDF files for presentation, design, publication, and print workflows.
- Map presentation controls: Use the layout engine, curated visual themes, and map typefaces to organize and present a map. Professional adds more themes and typefaces.
- Presentation and guided tour mode: Present a map freely with pan and zoom, or save a sequence of views and guide an audience through them with next/previous, keyboard, and fullscreen controls.
- Bulk editing: Professional users can apply bulk changes to map concepts and relationships when one-at-a-time editing is inefficient.
- MCP integration: Professional users can connect compatible AI clients to search, create, validate, edit, and arrange maps through permission-aware tools.
- Watermark-free output: Free maps and exports include KnowMapped attribution; Professional removes the watermark.
- Private workspace: Maps remain private while they are being developed and become public only when their owners choose to share them.

- Relationships: Directed connections between concepts that describe how ideas relate, including support, influence, dependency, contrast, sequence, causation, or other meanings.
- Maps: Collections of concepts and relationships that form editable visual knowledge structures.
- Public maps: Maps that owners intentionally publish for viewing, sharing, embedding, or other public access.
- Private maps: Maps stored in user workspaces that are not accessible to the public unless the owner chooses to publish them.

Public maps can be shared and embedded when their owners choose to publish them. KnowMapped does not currently provide a public directory or searchable index of all public maps.

## Key facts

- KnowMapped provides a free account with core manual mapping, public publishing, embeds, image exports, and portable `.know` exports.
- Professional is a one-time paid upgrade that provides expanded limits and additional features, including MCP access, live collaboration, live viewing for Professional-owned maps, bulk editing, watermark-free output, advanced data exports, and additional themes and typefaces.
- AI-assisted map generation is optional and uses generation credits based on source material processing.
- Manual creation, editing, rearranging, and viewing maps do not consume generation credits.
- Generated maps remain editable. Users are responsible for reviewing generated content and source interpretation.
- Uploaded source material is processed for map generation and removed after processing completes or fails.
- KnowMapped does not use advertising and does not sell user data.
- Public views, embeds, and social previews are available only for maps their owners have explicitly made public.
- KnowMapped treats relationships as meaningful knowledge objects rather than decorative connectors.

## Content governance

- Users are responsible for having appropriate rights to content they upload, process, generate from, or publish through KnowMapped.
- KnowMapped provides reporting, restriction, and review processes for copyright, abuse, and policy concerns.
- Users should review generated content before publishing or relying on it.

## Pricing and access

- KnowMapped offers free access for core manual mapping workflows.
- Professional access provides additional capabilities and expanded usage limits, including 100 generation credits with the one-time purchase.
- AI-assisted generation uses optional generation credits.
