# KnowMapped > KnowMapped is a visual knowledge-mapping application for turning complex ideas, source material, and systems of thought into connected knowledge structures. People can build maps manually, create editable starting maps from documents, collaborate, publish interactive views, embed maps, and export their work. KnowMapped is operated by Education Futures LLC. The public website describes the product, features, pricing, integrations, examples, and policies. Authenticated workspaces and private maps are intentionally excluded from this index. A map is not public unless its owner explicitly publishes it. ## Product - [KnowMapped overview](https://knowmapped.com/): Introduction to visual knowledge mapping and the KnowMapped workflow. - [Features](https://knowmapped.com/features): Manual map creation, source-assisted generation, meaningful relationships, visual design, collaboration, publishing, embedding, and exports. - [Pricing](https://knowmapped.com/pricing): Free access, Professional access, usage limits, and optional generation credits. - [Examples](https://knowmapped.com/examples): Public interactive maps and examples of possible knowledge-mapping applications. - [About](https://knowmapped.com/about): Information about Education Futures LLC and the ideas behind KnowMapped. ## Features - Knowledge maps, not simple diagrams: Represent ideas as connected knowledge structures where concepts and relationships form a model of understanding. - Meaningful relationships: Connections are more than lines. Describe how concepts support, influence, depend on, contradict, enable, sequence, or otherwise relate to one another. - Non-linear thinking: Build networks that cross clusters and levels without forcing ideas into a single hierarchy or tree. - Create from ideas or source material: Start from scratch, or analyze supported documents to create an editable starting map of candidate concepts and relationships. - AI-assisted, human-directed creation: Generated maps are starting points for exploration and refinement. Review, reorganize, rewrite, and reshape the map as your understanding develops. - Fully editable maps: Add, remove, rename, reposition, and reinterpret concepts and relationships throughout the map development process. - Visual knowledge design: Use layout, grouping, color, typography, themes, and emphasis to communicate patterns, connections, contrasts, pathways, and important ideas. - Expanded design options: Professional access adds additional presentation controls and design options for users who need more flexibility in how maps communicate. - Explore complex systems: Work with large maps by focusing on areas of interest while maintaining the surrounding context. - Collaborative knowledge building: Invite others to create, refine, and expand maps while maintaining ownership and access controls. - Live map sharing: Broadcast evolving maps so others can follow changes and explore ideas without editing the original workspace. - Interactive publishing: Publish maps as interactive experiences that others can explore online. - Embeddable knowledge: Place interactive maps into websites, courses, articles, reports, and digital publications. - Portable knowledge structures: Export maps for backup, transfer, presentation, publication, and structured-data workflows. - Private workspace: Maps remain private while they are being developed and become public only when their owners choose to share them. ## Applications KnowMapped can be used for: - Teaching and learning: Visualize concepts, readings, systems, and relationships to support deeper understanding. - Research and analysis: Organize literature, theories, evidence, and findings into connected structures. - Strategic planning: Map goals, dependencies, opportunities, decisions, and complex systems. - Documentation: Represent processes, workflows, organizational knowledge, and technical systems. - Writing and synthesis: Explore connections across complex source material and develop new perspectives. - Collaboration: Build shared understanding among teams, communities, and project groups. ## Core concepts - Concepts: Individual ideas, entities, topics, or pieces of knowledge represented as nodes in a map. - Relationships: Directed connections between concepts that describe how ideas relate, including support, influence, dependency, contrast, sequence, causation, or other meanings. - Maps: Collections of concepts and relationships that form editable visual knowledge structures. - Public maps: Maps that owners intentionally publish for viewing, sharing, embedding, or other public access. - Private maps: Maps stored in user workspaces that are not accessible to the public unless the owner chooses to publish them. ## Publishing and integrations - [Integrations](https://knowmapped.com/integrations): Ways to publish interactive KnowMapped maps on external websites. - [KnowMapped Embed](https://knowmapped.com/integrations/embed): Guidance for embedding public maps. - [Embed examples](https://knowmapped.com/integrations/embed-examples): Examples of interactive embedded maps. Public maps can be shared and embedded when their owners choose to publish them.
