Terms of Service

Last updated: August 9, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of KnowMapped, including knowmapped.com, app.knowmapped.com, and related services provided by Education Futures LLC.

By creating an account, purchasing KnowMapped products or services, or using KnowMapped, you agree to these Terms. Do not use the Service if you do not agree.

1. The Service and contracting party

KnowMapped is a knowledge-mapping platform operated by Education Futures LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company (“Education Futures,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Education Futures.

The Service may include manual map creation, collaboration, public publishing, structured data exports, document processing, AI-assisted generation, generation credits, paid software access, and other features that we may add, modify, or remove.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an individual KnowMapped account. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the Service only with authorization from a parent or legal guardian, or through an educational institution that has established the authority and obtained the permissions or consents required by applicable law.

Educational institutions are responsible for determining whether their deployment of KnowMapped complies with applicable student-record, parental-consent, child-privacy, and educational requirements.

By using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for activity conducted through your account.

You may not share credentials in a way that allows multiple people to avoid account or purchase requirements. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.

We may reject registrations, require verification, impose reasonable usage limits, or take other steps to protect the Service and its users.

4. Free and Professional access

Free accounts

Free accounts may create, edit, organize, share, and export maps, subject to reasonable technical and usage limits.

Certain features, including higher map limits, inviting collaborators, advanced exports, expanded design options, removal of KnowMapped branding, and other Professional tools, may require Professional access.

Free users may purchase generation credits and use supported AI-assisted generation features where available.

Users may download maps they are authorized to access in KnowMapped's portable .know format. Certain account tiers may provide additional export formats.

Professional access

Professional is currently offered as a one-time $49 purchase and includes 100 generation credits once.

Professional features remain subject to reasonable technical, storage, security, anti-abuse, and fair-use limits. Professional access does not permit automated scraping, resale, excessive resource consumption, or use that interferes with the Service.

5. Billing, purchases, and refunds

Merchant of record

Purchases are processed by a designated payment provider or merchant of record. The provider may collect payment, calculate and collect applicable taxes, issue invoices, handle chargebacks, and administer refunds.

One-time purchases

Professional purchases do not automatically renew. Generation credit packs are one-time purchases available to Free and Professional users.

By making a purchase, you authorize the applicable payment provider or merchant of record to charge the disclosed price, taxes, and fees using your selected payment method.

Before purchase, the checkout page will display the price, applicable purchase terms, and available cancellation or refund method.

After purchase, the merchant of record will provide an electronic confirmation that can be retained and that identifies the product, price, applicable terms, and available cancellation or refund method.

We or the merchant of record may send transaction notices and other communications required by applicable law.

Cancellation and refunds

You may request cancellation or a refund through the billing support method we make available. Any statutory cancellation rights remain unaffected.

A cancellation request does not ordinarily reverse a charge already completed. Any access or credit treatment will follow the disclosed purchase terms.

Canceling or refunding a purchase does not automatically delete your KnowMapped account or saved maps.

Price and product changes

We may change prices, product features, generation-credit allowances, or purchase terms prospectively. We will provide reasonable advance notice of material changes as described in Section 18.

Price changes do not apply retroactively to completed purchases.

Refunds and statutory cancellation rights

Except where required by applicable law or approved by the merchant of record, payments are nonrefundable.

Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory cancellation, withdrawal, refund, or consumer-protection right that cannot lawfully be waived.

Subject to those rights, we do not ordinarily provide refunds or credits for unused Professional access, unused generation credits, purchased credit packs, account suspension resulting from a violation of these Terms, or dissatisfaction with AI-generated output.

The applicable payment provider or merchant of record may issue a refund, reversal, or credit in its discretion or as required by its legal, payment-network, fraud-prevention, or chargeback obligations.

Failed or reversed payments

If payment fails or a charge is reversed, we may suspend paid features, reduce the account to Free access, restrict generation usage, or suspend the account until payment is resolved.

6. Generation credits and AI-assisted features

Credits

AI-assisted operations may require generation credits. The number of credits required may depend on source length, requested operation, output size, model, or other factors.

Where practical, we will display the required credit amount before a chargeable generation begins.

Generation credits are limited-use service units, not money or stored value. They cannot be sold, transferred, or exchanged for money. Professional includes 100 credits once; purchased and gifted credits do not expire.

A complete regeneration may consume additional credits. Manual editing and importing completed results do not consume credits unless otherwise disclosed.

Failed generations

We may restore credits when a generation fails because of a verified Service or provider error.

Credits are not automatically restored because output is incomplete, unexpected, inaccurate, stylistically undesirable, or unsuitable for your purpose.

AI limitations

AI output is generated probabilistically and may contain errors, omissions, fabricated information, bias, inappropriate content, or misleading relationships.

We do not warrant that AI output is accurate, complete, original, lawful, or fit for a particular purpose.

You are responsible for reviewing, validating, editing, and deciding whether to use or publish AI output. Do not rely on KnowMapped for legal, medical, financial, safety-critical, or other professional decisions without qualified human review.

Submitted material

You may submit material to KnowMapped only when you own the material, have permission or a license to use it, or otherwise have a lawful basis for the use, including an applicable exception or limitation under copyright or other law.

You are responsible for determining whether your use of submitted material, including uploading, processing, generating a map from, sharing, or publishing that material or resulting content, is permitted by law.

You may not submit unlawfully obtained material, information you are prohibited from disclosing, or highly regulated information that you are not authorized to process through a third-party AI service.

Uploaded source files

Files submitted for AI-assisted generation are transmitted for processing and are not retained by Education Futures as stored source files after the generation request is completed.

Generated concepts, relationships, descriptions, summaries, provenance excerpts, and other output may be retained when incorporated into a saved map.

OpenAI processing

Material submitted to AI-assisted features may be transmitted to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI’s handling of submitted material, including any temporary retention, security review, logging, or legally required preservation, is governed by OpenAI’s applicable service agreements, configurations, and policies.

Education Futures does not authorize OpenAI to use KnowMapped API inputs or outputs for model training. Education Futures does not, however, directly control OpenAI’s systems or every aspect of OpenAI’s processing.

Do not submit content to an AI-assisted feature unless you are comfortable having it transmitted to and processed by OpenAI.

7. Your content

Ownership

As between you and Education Futures, you retain ownership of the original content you submit to KnowMapped.

You are responsible for that content and for ensuring that you have all rights, permissions, licenses, or other lawful authority needed to upload, process, share, and publish it.

Copyrighted source material

KnowMapped may be used to analyze, summarize, organize, or visually represent source material. Copyright law may limit how a copyrighted work may be reproduced, processed, transformed, quoted, distributed, or publicly displayed.

A use that may be lawful for research, teaching, criticism, commentary, private study, or another purpose may not necessarily be lawful when the resulting map is published, distributed, or used commercially. You are responsible for determining whether your use of copyrighted material and any resulting map or output is lawful.

KnowMapped does not guarantee that a particular use of copyrighted material qualifies as fair use or another copyright exception.

License to operate the Service

You grant Education Futures a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, display, format, and modify your content solely as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide, operate, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the Service.
  • Enable features and actions you request.
  • Provide technical and customer support.
  • Carry out your instructions.
  • Comply with applicable law and valid legal requirements.

Education Futures does not acquire ownership of your content and does not use private map content or material submitted for AI generation to train artificial-intelligence models.

This license continues for as long as your content remains in the Service and for a limited backup, security, financial, dispute-resolution, or legal-retention period afterward.

Aggregated and deidentified information

We may create and use aggregated statistics or deidentified information that does not reasonably identify you or disclose the contents of your private maps.

Public maps

When you publish a map publicly, you direct us to make that map available to others.

Public content may be accessed, indexed, linked, copied, quoted, downloaded, cached, archived, or redistributed by third parties. You are responsible for determining whether content is appropriate and lawful for public disclosure.

Collaborative maps

Map owners control invitations and permissions. Depending on assigned roles, collaborators may view, edit, export, copy, or delete content.

We are not responsible for changes made by collaborators you authorize.

Exports and independent copies

You may download a machine-readable copy of a map through the sharing and export functions available for that map, subject to your permissions.

You are responsible for maintaining independent copies of important content. Although we may maintain backups, the Service is not a guaranteed archival or backup service.

Map and account deletion

You may delete individual maps through the Service and may delete your account using the available account controls.

Account deletion is intended to delete maps owned solely by that account, subject to limited backup, security, financial, dispute-resolution, or legal retention.

Deleting your account may not delete content owned by another user or organization, including collaborative maps to which you contributed.

Deletion does not remove copies that other users or third parties previously downloaded, copied, published, cached, archived, or otherwise stored outside KnowMapped.

8. Education Futures property

KnowMapped, its software, interface, visual design, trademarks, branding, documentation, templates, and other materials provided by Education Futures are owned by or licensed to Education Futures and are protected by intellectual-property laws.

These Terms do not grant you ownership of the Service or the right to copy, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or create competing services from protected elements except where such restrictions are prohibited by law.

9. Acceptable use

You may not use KnowMapped to:

  • Violate a law, regulation, court order, or legal right.
  • Infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, contractual, or confidentiality rights.
  • Upload, process, publish, or distribute copyrighted material when you lack a lawful basis to do so.
  • Use KnowMapped primarily to reproduce or distribute protected works in a way that substitutes for access to the original.
  • Upload malware or interfere with Service operation or security.
  • Access accounts, maps, systems, or data without authorization.
  • Harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate, or defraud another person.
  • Publish unlawful, abusive, deceptive, or intentionally harmful material.
  • Generate or distribute illegal content or instructions facilitating serious wrongdoing.
  • Evade usage limits, billing requirements, permissions, or security measures.
  • Scrape, crawl, benchmark, or automate access without written permission.
  • Resell account access, generation credits, or Service capacity without authorization.
  • Consume excessive resources or impair other users’ access.

You may not use the Service to process protected health information, complete payment-card data, Social Security numbers, government-classified information, authentication credentials, or similarly sensitive regulated information unless we have expressly agreed in writing that the applicable use is supported.

10. Monitoring and enforcement

We may monitor usage, logs, account activity, resource consumption, and system events to operate and secure the Service; measure generation usage; prevent fraud, abuse, and unlawful conduct; investigate complaints; diagnose technical issues; and enforce these Terms.

When reasonably necessary for support, safety, security, legal compliance, or enforcement, authorized personnel may review relevant account information or content.

When you submit a map for public access, KnowMapped may send the text that would appear publicly to an automated moderation provider, currently OpenAI. Screening may consider map and concept titles and descriptions and relationship text. We do not use this publication screening to continuously monitor private maps or every edit, and we do not send source uploads or unrelated private account information for this purpose.

Automated moderation results are signals used to support triage and human review, not final findings of a policy violation. A narrow high-risk result may temporarily hold publication. Account suspension or termination based on content moderation requires a deliberate administrator action rather than an automated classifier result alone.

Good-faith educational, scientific, historical, journalistic, documentary, artistic, or critical treatment of sensitive subject matter is not prohibited merely because it discusses that subject. This contextual protection does not permit content that promotes, meaningfully facilitates, or directly engages in prohibited harm.

We are not obligated to monitor all content and do not assume responsibility for user conduct.

We may remove or restrict content, limit features, revoke public links, disable collaboration, adjust or reverse credits obtained through error or abuse, or take other proportionate protective action.

Anyone may report a public map. Reports do not automatically establish a violation or require removal. Copyright complaints follow the separate DMCA process described below. A map owner may request human review or appeal an ordinary moderation decision by contacting hello@educationfutures.com.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or restrict access without prior notice when immediate action is reasonably necessary to address:

  • A security threat or material operational risk.
  • Fraud, abuse, or unauthorized activity.
  • Unlawful conduct or a valid legal requirement.
  • A material violation of these Terms.
  • A provider, court, regulator, or government requirement.
  • Use that materially burdens or disrupts the Service.

In other circumstances, including prolonged inactivity, unpaid fees, or discontinuation of the Service, we will provide notice when reasonably practicable.

If we discontinue a paid Service for reasons unrelated to your violation of these Terms, we will use reasonable efforts to provide an opportunity to export eligible content or arrange an appropriate refund or credit where required or reasonably appropriate.

We may delete an account and associated content following termination, an account-deletion request, prolonged inactivity, legal requirements, or a reasonable retention period.

Where practical and legally permitted, we may provide an opportunity to export eligible content before permanent deletion, but we are not obligated to preserve content indefinitely.

You may stop using the Service at any time. Ending access or requesting a refund does not automatically delete your account or content.

12. Third-party services

KnowMapped relies on third-party services, which may include hosting providers, Cloudflare, OpenAI, authentication providers, email providers, analytics providers, payment providers, and other vendors.

Their services may be governed by separate terms and privacy policies.

We are not responsible for third-party services, outages, changes, data practices, or actions beyond our reasonable control.

13. Service changes and availability

We may modify, update, suspend, discontinue, or impose limits on any part of the Service.

We do not guarantee that every feature will remain available or that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

Features identified as beta, experimental, preview, or early access may be changed or withdrawn at any time and may be less reliable than generally available features.

14. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” EDUCATION FUTURES DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED, AND STATUTORY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT.

We do not warrant that maps, AI output, imports, exports, collaboration, public links, or stored content will be accurate, complete, preserved, continuously available, or suitable for your needs.

Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

15. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EDUCATION FUTURES AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, CONTENT, BUSINESS, GOODWILL, OR OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR KNOWMAPPED DURING THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM; OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS.

Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

16. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Education Futures and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates from third-party claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable costs arising from:

  • Your unlawful content.
  • Your material violation of these Terms.
  • Your infringement of another person’s rights.
  • Your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Service.

This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from Education Futures’ own breach of these Terms, negligence, willful misconduct, or violation of law.

17. Governing law and venue

These Terms and disputes arising from or relating to them or the Service are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Subject to applicable law, any lawsuit or judicial proceeding must be brought in the state courts located in Scott County, Minnesota.

Where exclusive federal jurisdiction applies, the proceeding must be brought in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. You and Education Futures consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts.

Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of mandatory protections or access to courts available under the laws of the consumer’s place of residence where those protections or rights cannot lawfully be waived by contract.

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us and make a good-faith effort to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

This requirement does not prevent either party from seeking urgent injunctive or equitable relief, meeting a statutory filing deadline, or exercising a right that cannot lawfully be restricted.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the Service, applicable law, security requirements, business practices, or provider relationships.

We will post the revised Terms and update the “Last updated” date.

If a change materially affects your rights, obligations, paid access, content license, dispute procedures, or use of personal information, we will provide reasonable advance notice by email, through the Service, or both.

The notice will describe the material change, state when it takes effect, and explain any relevant options for stopping use of the Service or canceling affected purchases where applicable.

We may require affirmative acceptance when appropriate because of the nature of the change or when required by law. Material changes will not apply retroactively unless expressly permitted by applicable law.

Nonmaterial changes, including corrections, formatting changes, clarifications that do not alter the agreement, and updates to contact information, may take effect when posted.

Continued use after revised Terms take effect constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service before the revised Terms become effective.

19. General terms

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and terms presented at purchase constitute the agreement concerning the Service.

If a provision is unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent.

We may assign these Terms in connection with a reorganization, merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

Section headings are for convenience only. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including provisions concerning ownership, payments, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, and disputes.
